Shell Shocked, 2020
Oil and emulsion on eleven plyboard panels, 86 x 70 cm
£450
If an anaesthetic numbs the senses, the aesthetic experience awakens and stimulates. Not pleasantly necessarily, but one is acutely aware of our experience in this moment. The aesthetic experience isn't dependent on prior experience or knowledge. All art is conceptual but, being idea driven, this is one of my most conceptual works. I consciously went for a brutal, torn aesthetic. With the surface of the panels scarred like flesh, the work that had emerged reminded me of a landscape blasted by war. The rugged textures and fractured forms evoke a raw intensity.
