Everything At Once #1, 2024-25
Oil on board, 61 x 60.5 cm
£550
This painting began in May 2024 with a blue, grey and white design painted in oils on plyboard. And there I left it, though I never felt it was finished satisfactorily enough to show or sell. In the summer of 2025, having worked on other pieces that presented a similar problem, I realised it needed a contrasting, black design. However, it took until September to arrive at a design that satisfied me. This work, like others in my Everything At Once series, is an experiment in a composition of boldly contrasted, competing elements, painted very differently. It's an attempt at a visual equivalent of musical counterpoint where contrasting melodies or tones play simultaneously to create a memorable experience for the listener. The contrasting elements in this painting hopefully achieve a poetic alchemy whilst suggesting an infinity beyond the confines of the frame. This dynamic work will bring energy to any small to medium size space.
